A minimally invasive radiofrequency treatment for selected internal and prolapsing hemorrhoids
At AC Hemorrhoids & Anorectal Centre in Calgary, Rafaelo® may be considered for selected patients with persistent bleeding, prolapse, irritation, or other hemorrhoid symptoms.
Rafaelo® uses controlled radiofrequency energy to generate heat within the hemorrhoidal tissue, helping reduce blood flow and allowing the treated hemorrhoid to gradually shrink during healing.
Rafaelo® is designed for selected internal and prolapsing hemorrhoids. An assessment can help determine whether this treatment or another option is more appropriate.
Rafaelo® Hemorrhoids Treatment may be considered when internal hemorrhoid symptoms continue despite bowel regulation or conservative treatment.
Symptoms and treatment history may include:

No fasting or colonoscopy-style bowel preparation is usually required. Stay hydrated, maintain soft bowel movements, review medications, and use the recommended enema when instructed.
Local anesthetic is used and radiofrequency energy is delivered into the selected hemorrhoidal tissue. One or more hemorrhoids may be treated in about 15–30 minutes.
Patients go home the same day with post-procedure instructions. Follow-up is typically arranged at 6–8 weeks, as needed.

What Happens Next?
After you submit the form, our team will contact you as soon as possible, provide any additional information you may need, and help schedule your appointment.
The goal is to confirm the hemorrhoid type, degree of prolapse, external component, and whether Rafaelo® is the most appropriate treatment option.
Medical & Symptom Review of bleeding, prolapse, pressure, irritation, bowel habits, symptom duration, previous treatments, and medical history.
External Examination to assess external hemorrhoids, skin tags, prolapse, thrombosis, or other visible anorectal findings.
Digital Rectal Examination (DRE), when appropriate, to assess the anal canal, tenderness, muscle tone, and other findings that may affect treatment planning.
Anoscopy to assess internal hemorrhoid size, location, degree of prolapse, bleeding, and whether the internal hemorrhoids are suitable for Rafaelo® treatment.
Fees depend on the number, size, location, and complexity of hemorrhoids. A treatment estimate can be provided after assessment.
Rafaelo is a minimally invasive, in-clinic treatment that uses controlled radiofrequency heat to shrink internal hemorrhoids and relieve symptoms.
Radiofrequency treatment delivers energy into the hemorrhoid tissue, where it creates gentle heat inside the tissue itself. This helps reduce blood flow and shrink the hemorrhoid.
. It helps:
Radiofrequency is high-frequency alternating electrical current that generates localized thermal energy within tissue, causing coagulation, vessel sealing, and tissue shrinkage. It allows doctors/practitioners to apply precise, controlled heat to treat tissue safely.
It is:
It originates from electricity, but is converted into a specialized medical form that generates controlled heat for treatment. It is very different from the electricity used in daily life and does not cause electric shock. It is widely used in many medical treatments, such as skin procedures, varicose vein treatments, and pain management therapies. Rafaelo uses relatively low power—similar to small electronic
devices—but delivers it in a very precise and controlled way to treat only the hemorrhoid.
No.
You will not feel electricity. The energy is used only to create controlled heat in a small
area(hemorrhoids).
The Rafaelo procedure is short and performed in the clinic, typically within one visit. The procedure itself usually takes about 15–30 minutes, but you will also follow pre- and post-procedure protocols in the clinic to ensure safety and proper recovery.
No.
This is an outpatient procedure. You can go home the same day.
As with any procedure, risks may include:
Your provider will discuss these in detail before treatment.
Yes, when performed by trained clinicians with proper patient selection and follow-up care.
Rafaelo is typically suitable for:
A clinical assessment is required to confirm suitability.
There is a possibility of recurrence over time.
Proper treatment selection and follow-up care help reduce the recurrence.
