Explore hemorrhoids treatment options based on your symptoms, diagnosis, and clinical findings.
At AC Hemorrhoids & Anorectal Centre, non-surgical hemorrhoid treatment is selected according to hemorrhoid type, degree of prolapse, symptoms, anatomy, and previous treatment history.
Bright-red bleeding during or after a bowel movement, without tissue coming out, may be associated with internal hemorrhoids. Mild pressure, irritation, or recurrent bleeding may also occur.
Possible Treatment: Banding
Bright-red bleeding may occur with hemorrhoidal tissue that comes out during a bowel movement but returns inside on its own. Pressure, irritation, or recurrent prolapse may also occur.
Possible Treatment: Banding or Rafaelo®
Hemorrhoidal tissue may come out during a bowel movement and not return inside on its own. Some patients may need to manually push the tissue back in and may also notice bleeding, pressure, irritation, or difficulty cleaning.
Possible Treatment: Rafaelo® or Clinic-Based Hemorrhoid Surgery

Different anorectal symptoms can have different causes. A focused assessment helps identify the condition, anatomy, severity, and which treatment or procedure may be appropriate.
Medical Review of bleeding, pain, prolapse, swelling, itching, drainage, bowel habits, duration, recurrence, and previous treatment.
External Examination to assess external hemorrhoids, thrombosis, fissures, skin tags, swelling, drainage, or other visible findings.
Digital Rectal Examination (DRE) when appropriate to assess the anal canal, tenderness, sphincter tone, masses, or other findings.
Anoscopy when appropriate to evaluate internal hemorrhoids, prolapse, bleeding, and other internal anorectal findings.
Further Investigation such as ultrasound or MRI may be arranged when clinically indicated, especially when an abscess, fistula, deeper tract, or another complex anorectal condition is suspected. Medically necessary diagnostic imaging may be covered through Alberta’s public health system for eligible patients.
Fees vary depending on the location, grade, and number of internal hemorrhoids. After your assessment, our team will explain the recommended treatment, estimated fees, and any additional care that may be required.
Flexible monthly payment plans are available through Beautifi, including 0% financing options for eligible patients.
Yes. Selected internal and prolapsing hemorrhoids may be treated with non-surgical options such as hemorrhoid banding or Rafaelo®, depending on the hemorrhoid type, degree of prolapse, symptoms, and clinical findings.
Banding places a small rubber band around selected internal hemorrhoidal tissue to reduce its blood supply. Rafaelo® uses radiofrequency energy to treat selected internal and prolapsing hemorrhoids. The most appropriate option depends on the anatomy and severity of the hemorrhoids.
Some external hemorrhoid symptoms may improve with conservative care, but persistent external tissue, recurrent thrombosis, or mixed hemorrhoids may require a clinic-based procedure rather than banding or Rafaelo®.
A comprehensive anorectal assessment helps determine the hemorrhoid type, degree of prolapse, external involvement, symptom severity, and previous treatment history before a treatment option is recommended.
A focused anorectal assessment can help determine the most appropriate next step based on your symptoms, diagnosis, anatomy, and clinical findings.
